Balloon Density Apparatus

Used to determine the in-situ density of compacted soils.
The test consists of a graduated cylinder 1596ml cap. Housed inside an aluminium guard, a reversible rubber aspirator pump, a density plate 9 inches square & 12 rubber balloons.
The principal is similar to the sand replacement methods, but the hole is filled by a rubber balloon where water is pumped.
The amount of water is determined by the
graduation of the cylinder, or by the graduated stem & then the density of the soil removed.
